Sterling Fence Installation: The Dallas Owner’s Guide

Sterling fence installation in Dallas typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 for a complete perimeter job, with most homeowners in neighborhoods like Lakewood, Preston Hollow, and Oak Cliff landing between $4,500 and $6,500 for a standard backyard. The price depends mostly on linear footage, gate hardware, and whether we’re pulling old posts or starting fresh. Most owners call us after a storm has taken out a section, or when a gate has sagged so badly it drags across the concrete every time the kids go through it.

Here’s the thing most people don’t realize until they’re standing in the yard looking at a leaning line of pickets: a fence fails at the posts first, not the boards. The post rots at ground level or the concrete footing cracks, and everything attached to it starts to follow. Sterling makes a solid product, but Dallas soil moves, and our freeze-thaw cycles in January and February work on old footings like a pry bar. You should know who is coming, what it costs, and what happens if something goes wrong, before we ever pick up a tool.

Which Sterling Models This Applies To

Sterling’s residential line in Dallas is mostly split between two product families: the Estate series (thicker pickets, heavier rails, 6×6 posts on the corners) and the Classic series (standard 4×4 posts, thinner pickets, more economical per foot). The quickest way to identify what you have is to look at the post caps. The Estate series uses a molded cap that sits slightly proud of the post top. The Classic series has a flat cap that sits flush.

One compatibility gotcha we see regularly: Sterling changed their rail bracket design in 2019. Older fences used a face-mounted bracket. Newer panels slide into a routed slot on the post. If you buy a replacement panel assuming the old bracket style, it won’t sit right. We match the bracket to the post generation before we order anything. As an independent Dallas contractor, we’re not affiliated with Sterling, but we install OEM Sterling panels and quality aftermarket equivalents that match the profile, color, and thickness of the originals. We also stock replacement parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone, so if you’re updating the fence as part of a bigger exterior project, we can keep the whole thing moving.

Signs Your Sterling Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Posts leaning more than 5 degrees. This almost always means the concrete footing has cracked or the post has started to rot below grade. Pushing it back straight doesn’t fix it. The footing needs to be re-poured or the post replaced. In Dallas, a big storm will finish a leaning post off completely.
  • Gate dragging or won’t latch. The gate frame has pulled out of square, or the hinge lag bolts have stripped inside the post. Adjusting the hinges helps for a week or two. The real fix is a heavier post or a frame rebuild with corner brackets.
  • Pickets cracking at the nail line. This is thermal expansion working against the fastener. Dallas summers push surface temps on a dark fence past 140 degrees. Wood expands, contracts, and eventually splits. Once you see cracking on more than a few pickets, it’s a sign the whole section is near replacement age.
  • Rails separating from posts. The bracket has rusted through or the screws have sheared. If the bracket failed, it’s a quick and inexpensive fix. If the post itself is soft, a new bracket will just pull out of rotted wood.
  • Bottom rail touching soil. This is the most common installation mistake we correct. Wood sitting in contact with Dallas clay stays damp for weeks after a rain and invites rot and termites. A proper install holds the bottom rail 2 to 3 inches off grade, and that gap alone adds years to a fence.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled primary bathroom with a soaking tub and walk-in shower

In Dallas, expect to pay $3,500 to $9,000 for a full Sterling fence installation, with most jobs landing between $4,500 and $6,500. The spread comes down to three factors: how many linear feet you’re fencing, what’s happening below ground (old concrete footings are the biggest cost driver on replacements), and gate count. A single walk gate adds $300 to $600. A double drive gate can add $1,200 to $2,500 depending on hardware and whether it needs a steel frame insert.

Every quote includes the post footings, concrete, panels, brackets, fasteners, gates, hardware, and cleanup. We pull old fencing, haul it away, and we don’t surprise you on the final bill. Written line-item pricing is delivered before work starts on every project, every time. A 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the installation: if anything isn’t right within 365 days of the completion date, we fix it at no cost to you.

What Drives the Cost Typical Range in Dallas
Full perimeter fence, standard backyard $3,500 – $9,000
Gate, single walk $300 – $600
Gate, double drive $1,200 – $2,500
Old concrete footing removal (per post) $40 – $90
Post replacement only (no new panels) $150 – $300 per post

DIY or Call Us?

A fence panel replacement on level ground with sound posts is a weekend job a handy homeowner can handle. If the posts are solid and the brackets are intact, you can swap panels yourself. The moment a post is involved, the project changes. A proper post replacement means digging below the frost line, re-pouring a concrete footing, and keeping the new post plumb while the concrete sets. Do it wrong and the next storm puts that post through a neighbor’s window or across a driveway.

If you have any uncertainty about the posts, call us at (432) 302-8761. Isaac Pruett walks each job before any work starts, and he’ll tell you straight whether this is a panel swap or a full replacement. We don’t charge for the assessment. You’ll get a written price before we pick up a tool.
