Atlas Bathroom Remodeling: The Dallas Owner’s Guide

If you have an Atlas bathroom fixture or fitting that’s failed, we stock and install Atlas-compatible replacement parts across Dallas, with most bathroom remodeling jobs running between $9,000 and $28,000 installed. The part itself is usually a fraction of that, but the labor, waterproofing, and finish work around it is where the cost lives. Most homeowners discover a part has failed the hard way: a valve that won’t stop dripping, a cartridge that seizes mid-shower, or a drain assembly that has quietly been leaking into the subfloor for months. You should know who is coming, what it costs, and what happens if something goes wrong, before we ever pick up a tool.

We’re an independent Dallas remodeling contractor. We’re not affiliated with Atlas, but we work with their parts daily because they show up in a lot of Texas bathrooms built over the last 20 years.

Which Atlas Models This Applies To

Atlas built several fixture lines over the years, and the compatibility picture gets tricky fast. The two most common Atlas bathroom configurations we see in Dallas homes are the Atlas Nova series (mid-range, contractor-grade, common in 1990s-2000s production homes) and the Atlas Sterling line (higher-end, often spec’d in custom builds around Preston Hollow and Lakewood). The valve bodies are not interchangeable between the two, and if you guess wrong, you’ll be back at the supply house or on the phone with us anyway.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha that catches a lot of Dallas homeowners: Atlas changed their valve spacing in the mid-2000s, from 5-1/4″ centers to 6″ centers. A trim kit that looks identical on the shelf will not seat correctly on an older valve body. The only way to know is to pull the trim plate and measure the distance between the two valve stems, center to center. If you see 5-1/4″, you need the older Nova-series trim. If you see 6″, you can use current Sterling and most aftermarket equivalents. We keep both on our trucks because we learned this the hard way years ago.

On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: for Atlas cartridges and stems, we recommend OEM Atlas when the fixture is newer than about 8 years. The tolerances are tighter and the warranty is cleaner. For older Atlas models where OEM stock is discontinued or price-gouged, we recommend and stock quality aftermarket equivalents from Danco and BrassCraft that fit correctly and cost about 40% less. We’ll tell you which way we’d go and why, in plain language, before you spend a dollar.

Signs Your Atlas Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing

  • A slow drip from the tub spout or showerhead that won’t stop. This is almost always the Atlas cartridge or stem seal. In Dallas water, the rubber seats harden faster than the national average because of mineral content, and a drip is the first sign they’ve given up.
  • Water temperature that swings hot and cold while you’re using it. On Atlas pressure-balancing valves, this means the balancing spool inside the cartridge is sticking. It’s a common failure after 5-7 years in Dallas, especially in older homes with galvanized supply lines that shed rust.
  • A handle that spins more than a quarter-turn without changing water flow. The cartridge stem has stripped or the internal stop has worn. Once this happens, the handle won’t reliably shut water off, which becomes a problem in a hurry.
  • Water staining or soft drywall on the wall behind or below the shower. This is not a part failure on its own; it’s what happens when an Atlas drain gasket or valve body connection fails inside the wall. By the time you see the stain, you have a leak that has been working for weeks.
  • Black or green mineral buildup on exposed Atlas trim or around the escutcheon plate. Dallas water is hard, and this buildup is normal over time, but if it appears suddenly or in a new spot, it’s often a hairline crack in the valve body or trim plate letting water weep out.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A powder room with botanical wallpaper and a stone sink

For a full Atlas bathroom remodel in Dallas, plan on $9,000 to $28,000 installed. At the low end, that’s a tub-to-shower conversion or a one-piece surround replacement with a new Atlas-compatible valve and trim. At the high end, you’re looking at a full gut to the studs, new waterproofing, moving plumbing lines, custom tile, and premium Atlas fixtures. The part replacement alone, like a cartridge or valve swap, runs closer to $150 to $400 in labor plus the part, and we do that as a standalone service when the rest of the bathroom is sound.

  • Bathroom remodel (full): $9,000 – $28,000
  • Small bathroom remodel: $5,000 – $12,000
  • Walk-in shower installation: $4,500 – $12,000
  • Tub-to-shower conversion: $3,500 – $10,000
  • Shower replacement: $3,000 – $8,500
  • Bathroom vanity installation: $800 – $3,000

Every quote we give is a written price before any work starts. No verbal estimates that grow on the final bill, no change orders that appear out of nowhere. The price includes the part, labor, removal and disposal of the old fixture, and any necessary waterproofing or sealing. Our work is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something isn’t right within a year of completion, we make it right at no cost to you.

DIY or Call Us?

A homeowner can safely do a few things: confirm the model by reading the Atlas label under the trim plate, measure your valve spacing, and shut off the water to the bathroom to stop an active leak. That’s genuinely useful, and it helps us quote faster when you call.

What we’d caution against is pulling an Atlas valve body apart yourself, especially on an older Dallas home. The valve bodies are often threaded into copper or galvanized pipe that’s been in the wall for 40 years, and one hard turn on a seized cartridge can crack the pipe inside the wall. That turns a $300 part swap into a $4,000 wall repair. It also involves pressurized water lines, which belong in the hands of someone who has done it a few hundred times. If you’re not sure, call (432) 302-8761 and we’ll talk it through before anyone drives out.
