Atlas Windows & Doors: The Dallas Owner’s Guide
If your Atlas window or door has a broken lock, failed seal, sagging hinge, or cracked glass, we can match the part to your specific Atlas model and install it. Most Atlas window and door repairs in Dallas run $150 – $900 depending on the part and the work involved, and most jobs only take one visit. Typically, the first sign something has failed is a draft you can’t explain, a window that won’t stay open, or a door that rubs the frame where it never used to.
We keep common Atlas-compatible hardware on the truck, which means a lot of Dallas homeowners don’t have to wait on a special order. You should know who is coming, what it costs, and what happens if something goes wrong before we ever pick up a tool.
Which Atlas Models This Applies To

Atlas has produced several distinct window and door lines over the years, and the parts are not as interchangeable as people assume. The three we see most often in Dallas homes are the Atlas 3000 series (aluminum, common in 1980s and 1990s construction), the Atlas 5000 series (vinyl, found in homes built from the late 1990s through the 2000s), and the Atlas 7000 series (higher-end vinyl and aluminum-clad, often in newer builds and remodels).
A key compatibility gotcha: the balance system (the spring mechanism that makes a single-hung or double-hung window lift easily) is not the same across series. A 3000-series balance will not fit a 5000-series frame, even if both windows are the same width. If you try to force one, you’ll ruin the new part and probably the jamb. Before calling us, open the sash and look for the sticker along the top or side rail. Atlas stamps the series number there, and if the sticker is gone, we can identify the window by measuring the balance channel depth and the sash weight.
On the doors side, Atlas entry door hinges and threshold caps are mostly series-specific too. The adjustable threshold on the 7000 series is the one part that trips up a lot of Dallas homeowners, because it looks like a universal piece and isn’t. We stock both OEM where it matters (balances, thresholds, lock sets) and quality aftermarket equivalents for wear items like weatherstripping and rollers. Our position on aftermarket is simple: if it meets or exceeds the Atlas spec and saves you money, we’ll tell you. If it doesn’t, we won’t offer it.

Signs Your Atlas Windows & Doors Is Failing
- The window won’t stay up without a prop. This is almost always a failed balance spring or spiral balance. In Dallas’s heat, the internal springs fatigue faster than in cooler climates, and you’ll usually notice it on the west-facing windows first.
- Condensation between the glass panes. That’s a failed insulated glass unit (IGU) seal. Once the seal goes, the argon or krypton gas escapes and the window loses most of its insulating ability. It also fogs over permanently.
- The door scrapes the threshold or won’t latch. Often a worn hinge or a sagging door slab. On Atlas 5000-series doors, the top hinge wears first because the door is heavy and the hinge is under-spec’d for Dallas’s summer expansion cycles.
- You feel a draft around the sash even when the window is locked. The weatherstripping has compressed or the wool pile has worn flat. This is a cheap fix, usually under $200 installed, and it makes a real difference in a Dallas July.
- The lock turns but doesn’t engage. The striker plate or the lock body has worn past its tolerance. On older Atlas locks, the internal pawl rounds off. It’s a security issue, not just an annoyance, and we treat it that way.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what you can expect to pay for common Atlas parts work in the Dallas market, including the part and our labor:
- Weatherstripping replacement: $150 – $350 per window or door
- Balance spring replacement (single-hung or double-hung): $180 – $400 per sash
- Lock set replacement (window or door): $120 – $280
- Hinge replacement on an Atlas entry door: $200 – $450
- Threshold cap replacement: $180 – $350
- Insulated glass unit replacement: $300 – $900 depending on size and glass type
What drives the range: the series, the sash size, whether the part is OEM or a quality aftermarket equivalent, and whether the frame has any secondary damage from the failed part. We give you a written price before we start, not after. That price includes the part, the labor, and cleanup. It doesn’t include a surprise line item at the end. Our workmanship is guaranteed for 365 days from the completion date, and if something we installed fails in that year, we come back and fix it at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
Here’s the honest split. Some things you can safely handle yourself: cleaning the track, tightening a loose handle screw, replacing a torn piece of weatherstripping you can see and reach. Those don’t require a service call.
But window balances are under tension. A spiral balance that releases wrong can take a strip of skin off your hand. An IGU replacement means removing the sash, disassembling the frame, and resealing the unit. Get that wrong and you’ll have a fogged window again in six months, plus a bigger bill. And door hinges on a heavy Atlas slab require a second set of hands and a level. We’d rather you call. We’ll tell you on the phone whether it’s worth a service visit or whether we can walk you through a quick fix yourself. No charge for the conversation.
FAQs

In the Dallas climate, most Atlas insulated glass units last 15 to 20 years before the seal fails. South and west-facing units with direct afternoon sun often fail sooner, sometimes in as few as 10 to 12 years.
Usually not. Once the internal spring has lost tension or the spiral has stripped, the balance is done. We replace them in pairs on double-hung windows so the lift stays even. Call (432) 302-8761 for an exact quote on your window.
Most single-part jobs take 45 minutes to 2 hours. An IGU replacement can run longer because the old unit has to come out, the sash has to be cleaned, and the new unit has to be set and sealed properly.
We carry common balances, weatherstripping, locks, hinges, and threshold caps, plus parts for KraftMaid cabinetry and Cambria and Silestone surface work. If your Atlas part is a less common series or a custom size, we order it and typically have it installed within a week.
If your Atlas window or door isn’t working the way it should, call us at (432) 302-8761. We’ll tell you what we think it is, what it costs to fix, and when we can get to you. Free estimate, written price, no surprises.
