PGT Fence Installation: The Dallas Owner’s Guide

PGT fence installation in Dallas typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 fully installed, depending on the fence style, linear footage, and whether you’re replacing an existing run or starting fresh. We stock PGT-compatible aluminum and vinyl fence components on the truck, so most Dallas jobs move from quote to completion within a week. Where homeowners usually run into trouble is discovering mid-project that their PGT gate hardware or line posts were sized wrong for North Texas clay soil, which shifts and heaves through our wet-dry cycles.

PGT (that’s the fence division, not to be confused with PGT windows) builds aluminum and vinyl fencing systems engineered for Florida hurricane codes. That’s good news for Dallas, because a fence rated for 150 mph wind loads handles our spring thunderstorm gusts without drama. But it also means PGT uses thicker wall profiles and heavier post systems than the big-box fence panels you’ll find at Home Depot, so a PGT run installed correctly lasts 20-plus years in Texas sun without sagging or blistering.

Quick compatibility check before you call: PGT aluminum fence posts are 2″ × 2″ or 2.5″ × 2.5″ square, and their residential-grade panels come in 4-foot, 5-foot, and 6-foot heights. If you inherited a PGT fence with the previous house, the panel style is usually stamped on the bottom rail or the latch post cover. You should know who is coming, what it costs, and what happens if something goes wrong, before we ever pick up a tool.

Which PGT Models This Applies To

An open living space after a whole-home remodel

We install and repair the PGT residential fence lines most commonly sold into Dallas neighborhoods: the aluminum Estate line, the aluminum Regal line, and the vinyl/Windsor privacy series. The Estate and Regal lines use the same post-and-panel profile system, which saves you money if you’re replacing a damaged section rather than the whole run, because we can match existing post spacing without re-digging every hole.

The single biggest compatibility gotcha we see in Dallas is this: PGT changed their gate hinge design around 2019. Older runs used a mortise-style hinge that bolts through the gate frame; newer runs use a surface-mount weld-on hinge. If your gate is dragging and the fence dates from before 2019, we usually replace the hinge set with the current PGT-compatible version rather than trying to source discontinued hardware. A quality aftermarket hinge from a reputable aluminum fabricator works fine and saves money, but we’ll tell you which one before ordering anything.

We’re an independent Dallas contractor, not a PGT dealer or factory affiliate. What that means for you: we match the component, we don’t upsell you into a full system replacement unless it’s actually needed. We carry the common post caps, gate hinges, latch kits, and panel hardware on the service truck, and we can usually source uncommon PGT trim or specialty gate hardware within two to three business days through our supplier network in the Dallas Market Center district.

Signs Your PGT Fence Installation Is Failing

  • The gate drags or won’t latch at all. In Dallas clay, this is usually post movement rather than hinge wear. The gate post has shifted slightly out of plumb, and now the latch bar doesn’t line up with the receiver. Shim washers fix it half the time; resetting the post in concrete fixes it the other half.
  • Panels are loose at the post connections. PGT’s aluminum panels use self-tapping screws into post flanges. After a decade of Dallas temperature swings, those screws can back out just enough to rattle in the wind. Re-torquing is quick, but if the screw holes are stripped, we punch new ones and move on.
  • White residue or pitting at the post bases. That’s oxidation from constant contact with wet soil. Our sprinkler systems and the way Dallas yards hold moisture at the fence line make this common. If caught early, we clean and seal; if the post wall is compromised, we replace the post before it becomes a leaning section.
  • The vinyl pickets are chalky or cracked. PGT vinyl is UV-stabilized, but 10 to 15 years of direct Dallas sun will eventually dry out the cap rail or the picket surface. Replacement pickets and cap rails are stock items with most distributors, and swapping a damaged section usually doesn’t require replacing the posts.
  • The gate swings open on its own or springs back hard. That’s a hinge alignment issue, often from a post that moved just a hair. Left alone, it stresses the hinge weld points and eventually snaps the hinge. We’d rather adjust it now for a service call than replace a broken gate frame later.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled living room with built-in shelves around the fireplace

For a full PGT-compatible fence installation in Dallas, expect $3,500 to $9,000 installed. A typical 150-linear-foot aluminum install with one walk gate lands around $4,500 to $6,000. Vinyl privacy fencing runs toward the top of that range because the panels are heavier and the posts are set deeper.

What drives the price within that range:

  • Linear footage is the main driver, obviously. More fence, more panels, more posts, more concrete.
  • Gate count. Each gate adds $400 to $1,200 depending on width and hardware. A double-drive gate costs more than two single gates because the post loads are higher and we upsize the post and hinge package.
  • Soil conditions. Dallas runs the spectrum from rocky limestone in some pockets to heavy clay in others. Hard digging means deeper, wider post holes and more concrete, which sends the post-setting labor up.
  • Removal and haul-off. If there’s an existing fence, add roughly $4 to $7 per linear foot for demolition and debris disposal through a licensed Dallas hauler.

Every quote we write includes parts, labor, concrete, haul-off, and a line-item breakdown. Nothing is verbal, nothing changes after we start, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the work for a full year from completion. If something is not right, we come back and make it right at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself: look for loose screws at the panel-to-post connections, eyeball whether the gate post is plumb with a basic level, and clear soil or mulch that’s piled against the post bases trapping moisture. Those are legitimate homeowner inspections, and they’ll help you describe the problem accurately when you call.

Where DIY goes sideways with PGT fences is post setting and gate hanging. A fence panel is not dangerous to handle, but a 6-foot vinyl panel in a Dallas wind gust acts like a sail, and a post hole dug 18 inches deep in clay instead of 30 inches will heave within two years. Gate alignment is the other one: if the post is out by a quarter inch, no amount of latch adjustment fixes it. We’ve reset gates that homeowners fought with for months, and the fix usually takes us under two hours. Same story with concrete: mix it wrong in July heat and it cures brittle before you finish the second post.

The call costs you nothing. We’ll give you a written quote with a fixed number, a start date, and the name and photo of the technician who will show up at your door with a photo ID badge. Call (432) 302-8761.
