Belgard Home Additions & ADU: The Dallas Owner’s Guide
If you’re planning a Belgard home addition or ADU in Dallas, a full build typically runs $45,000 to $130,000 for an addition, with standalone ADUs landing between $90,000 and $220,000 depending on footprint, foundation work, and utility runs. We install Belgard hardscape materials as part of these projects, from paver driveways and patio surrounds to retaining walls that tie the new structure into your existing landscape. Most Dallas homeowners call us because their addition plans hit a wall: the city wants specific drainage details, the backyard slopes more than the plans assumed, or the Belgard paver selection they picked out isn’t rated for the load their new driveway will carry.
We’re Mason Remodeling Co Dallas, and we’ve built additions and ADUs across this city long enough to know that the difference between a smooth build and a six-month headache usually comes down to who shows up and whether the price was real from day one. We carry Belgard pavers, wall blocks, and edging on our trucks and in our Dallas yard, and we match existing Belgard product lines when you’re extending a patio or tying a new ADU into paving that’s already on the property.
Which Belgard Models This Applies To

Belgard manufactures several product families that show up repeatedly on Dallas addition and ADU projects. The most common are the Catalina Slate and Mega-Arbel paver lines for driveways and patios, Belair Wall and Diamond Pro blocks for retaining and freestanding walls, and Urbana pavers for tighter courtyard spaces between the main house and an ADU. Each series has different dimensional tolerances and load ratings. A Mega-Arbel paver is rated for vehicular traffic; a Catalina Slate paver is not, at least not in a driveway application. When a homeowner calls us about failed pavers around a new ADU, more often than not the original installer used a pedestrian-rated paver in a driveway or parking pad and the Texas clay soil did the rest.
Identifying your Belgard product is straightforward if you know where to look. Pavers and wall blocks have the Belgard name molded or stamped into the product, usually on the back or bottom face. The color blend name, like “Sierra” or “Rio,” matters too, because Belgard phases out color runs. If you’re six years into a patio and need replacement pavers to match, we may need to order from Belgard’s current Dallas distributor and accept a slight tone difference, or we can pull matching pavers from an inconspicuous corner of your existing hardscape and install new pavers there instead. That’s the kind of workaround that only shows up when someone actually knows the product line.
We are an independent Dallas contractor, not affiliated with Belgard. That means we can install Belgard products, but we also have relationships with Unilock and Techo-Bloc when a different paver line fits the job better. We’ll tell you honestly which product makes sense for your addition’s specific loads and drainage.

Signs Your Belgard Home Additions & ADU Is Failing
- Pavers sinking or dipping around the new addition’s edges. Dallas’ expansive clay soil swells when wet and contracts when dry. If the base under your Belgard pavers wasn’t compacted in lifts and wrapped with geotextile fabric, the pavers will telegraph every soil shift. You’ll see dips near downspouts first, then a widening bowl shape that holds water after rain.
- Retaining wall blocks cracking or leaning outward. A Belgard wall block failure almost always traces back to drainage. Without a gravel backfill column and a perforated drain pipe at the base, hydrostatic pressure builds behind the wall and pushes it forward. In Dallas, a February freeze followed by a wet March will expose this fast.
- Water pooling against the ADU foundation instead of draining away. Belgard pavers need a 1% to 2% slope away from structures. If your patio or walkway slopes back toward the addition, water sits against the slab edge and works its way into the wall assembly over time. We see efflorescence, musty drywall, and door thresholds that rot from the bottom up.
- Driveway pavers shifting under car tires. This is the classic wrong-paver or wrong-base problem. Belgard’s vehicular-rated pavers need a thicker base and a tighter joint pattern. If the pavers are moving under a sedan, the install wasn’t done to spec. If the same pavers are fine under a sedan but fail under an SUV, the edge restraint probably gave out first.
- Gaps opening between pavers and the house. Belgard jobs need a rigid edge restraint, usually a concrete haunch or an aluminum or PVC edge nailed into compacted base. Once that edge lets go along a wall or foundation line, the whole field starts creeping. You’ll notice the gap widest at the corners of the addition first.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For Dallas homeowners, here’s what you should budget when Belgard hardscape work is part of a home addition or ADU project:
- Paver patio or courtyard at an ADU: $3,500 – $11,000 installed, including excavation, compacted base, geotextile, edge restraint, and polymeric sand in the joints.
- Paver driveway serving a new addition: $7,000 – $18,000, depending on square footage, access for equipment, and whether we’re tying into existing paving.
- Retaining wall for grade changes around an ADU: typically $40 – $75 per square foot of wall face, including drainage. We’ll walk you through this during the estimate.
- Full home addition with Belgard hardscape tied in: $45,000 – $130,000 for the entire scope, including foundation, framing, roofing, interior finish, and the exterior hardscape.
- Standalone ADU with Belgard patio and walkway: $90,000 – $220,000 all-in, depending on whether we’re handling utility runs, a full kitchen, and site drainage.
Every line item is written down before we start. That’s the rule, not a promotion. You’ll see the paver cost, the base prep cost, the drainage cost, and the labor as separate numbers on the estimate. If the job changes because we hit something unexpected under the soil, we stop and give you a written change order before spending another dollar. The workmanship on our Belgard installations is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something we built fails within a year of completion, we fix it at no cost to you.
DIY or Call Us?
Belgard paver and wall installation is not inherently dangerous the way gas or electrical work is, but it’s also not a weekend project that goes well on the first try. The safe do-it-yourself moves are measuring your space, photographing the existing Belgard product before it fails further, and checking whether water is pooling where it shouldn’t. What goes wrong fast in Dallas: homeowners dig out a patio area, skip the geotextile fabric, use bagged base material from a big-box store that doesn’t compact well, and then wonder why their pavers look like a topographical map within two seasons. By the time we’re called in, the fix costs more than doing it right the first time would have.
If your Belgard hardscape is part of a larger addition or ADU project, the sequencing matters too. Drainage gets set before pavers go down, and pavers go down before final grading. Getting that order wrong means redoing work. Call us at (432) 302-8761 and we’ll come walk the site. Isaac Pruett still walks every job himself before the first nail or paver goes in, because a plan on paper and a house in front of you are two different things.
FAQs

Belgard pavers themselves carry a transferable lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects, but the installed system’s real lifespan in Dallas depends on base prep and drainage. We see properly installed Belgard paving holding up for 25 to 40 years in our climate. Poorly installed pavers over Texas clay can fail in five years or less. Call (432) 302-8761 if you want us to look at what’s under your current paving.
Often yes. If the failure is localized, usually around a downspout or along an edge, we can pull the affected pavers, fix the base and drainage underneath, and reinstall the same pavers. The color match concerns come when original pavers are cracked and need replacement with new stock. Call us and we’ll tell you honestly whether a spot repair makes sense on your Dallas property.
A standalone patio or walkway around 400 to 600 square feet typically takes three to five days from excavation to final compaction. Larger driveway work or full hardscape packages tied to an ADU build run one to three weeks depending on weather and access. We’ll give you a written schedule before starting, and we’ll tell you if that schedule changes and why.
We keep the most common Belgard lines in our Dallas yard: Catalina Slate and Mega-Arbel in two or three color blends, plus matching wall block and edging. Less common series and colors come from Belgard’s Dallas distribution network, usually within five to seven business days. We can also source KraftMaid cabinetry, Cambria quartz, and Silestone surfaces for the interior side of your addition or ADU if you want one contractor handling the whole job.
You should know who is coming, what it costs, and what happens if something goes wrong, before we ever pick up a tool. Call (432) 302-8761 for a free estimate on your Belgard home addition or ADU in Dallas. We’ll put the numbers in writing and tell you exactly who will be at your door.
