Unilock Home Additions & ADU: The Dallas Owner’s Guide
If you’re planning a Unilock paver home addition or ADU in Dallas, the typical installed cost runs $45,000 to $130,000 for a home addition and $90,000 to $220,000 for a full ADU construction, including the Unilock hardscape components that tie the structure to your property. Most Dallas homeowners call us when they realize their existing Unilock patio, walkway, or retaining wall is no longer structurally sound enough to serve as the foundation for an addition, or when they want to match an existing Unilock paver pattern on a new ADU foundation and outdoor living space. We’re an independent Dallas contractor, not a Unilock affiliate, but we install Unilock pavers, walls, and edging on home additions and ADU projects across the metro, from Oak Cliff up through the design district near the Dallas Market Center, and we keep the common Unilock parts and compatible materials in stock to keep the job moving.
Which Unilock Models This Applies To
The Unilock line most Dallas homeowners choose for home additions and ADU projects is the EnduraColor series, which covers pavers like Richcliff, Umbriano, and Courtstone, along with Unilock Brussels Block and Hollandstone for driveways and heavy-load paths. The compatibility gotcha owners miss: Unilock makes three different edging systems (SnapEdge, DiamondEdge, and the older plastic edging that predates both), and the paver thickness matters more than the color. A 60mm paver won’t handle the load of a driveway approach the way an 80mm EnduraColor paver will, and we see that mistake on addition projects regularly. When we build an addition or ADU with Unilock hardscape, we match the exact paver thickness, color blend, and laying pattern to the existing site so the new work doesn’t look like an afterthought. If you’re not sure what you have, pull a paver from the edge and check the back for the molded product name, then call us at (432) 302-8761 and we’ll identify the match before we quote the job.

Signs Your Unilock Home Additions & ADU Is Failing
- Settling or sinking pavers near the addition’s foundation line. This usually means the base material under the original patio wasn’t compacted to Unilock’s spec. On addition projects, we excavate and rebuild the base to at least a 6-inch compacted depth with the right aggregate, because that’s what keeps the pavers from shifting under the new structure’s weight and our Texas clay soil’s swelling cycle.
- Widening gaps between a retaining wall and the structure it’s holding back. Unilock wall blocks are designed to lock together and lean slightly into the soil they retain. When that lean exceeds what the block geometry allows, the wall is failing forward. We see this after heavy North Texas rain seasons when drainage behind the wall was never installed.
- Cracked or chipped edge pavers along a walkway you now want to extend. Edge restraint failure is the most common issue. If you’re adding a room or ADU and want to extend the existing walkway, broken edges tell us the original SnapEdge or DiamondEdge restraint wasn’t spiked in properly, and we’ll need to reset the perimeter along with the new section.
- Water pooling against the addition’s slab after one rain. Proper Unilock installation includes a 1 to 2 percent slope away from the house. If the outdoor living area was installed flat, every Dallas rain pushes water toward the new foundation, and that’s a problem you need addressed before the addition gets closed in.
- Color fade or surface pitting across high-traffic areas. Unilock’s EnduraColor pavers have the color baked in and resist fading well, but older line products and pavers with surface damage from de-icing salts (which Dallas homeowners rarely need but sometimes use after ice storms) will show visible wear. That worn paver is the one you’ll want replaced when the new addition’s outdoor space is matched to the old.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For a home addition with Unilock hardscape in Dallas, plan on $45,000 to $130,000, and for a full ADU with Unilock pavers and walls, $90,000 to $220,000. The range depends on whether we’re matching an existing Unilock patio or building the entire hardscape from scratch, how much retaining wall is required on your specific lot, and whether the addition is a single room or a larger living space with plumbing. What’s included: a written price before any work starts, the Unilock pavers or wall blocks themselves, all base material and edging, labor and installation, and haul-off of the old material. Isaac Pruett walks every job himself before the first paver is pulled, so the number you get is the number you pay. No change orders, no surprise invoices. The workmanship is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if anything isn’t right within a year of completion, we fix it at no cost to you.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself: pull a paver to identify the Unilock product name on the back, note whether water pools near the foundation after rain, and mark where the existing edging looks loose. What you shouldn’t do is start pulling pavers or wall blocks out of a retaining wall you plan to build on, because a collapsed wall section can drop hundreds of pounds of block and soil in a second. We’ve seen a homeowner try to “straighten” a leaning Unilock wall before an ADU project and end up destabilizing the whole terrace. That’s a job for a builder who does it every week. If your existing Unilock hardscape needs a reset or you’re ready to plan the addition, call us at (432) 302-8761 and we’ll schedule a free estimate. You should know who is coming, what it costs, and what happens if something goes wrong, before we ever pick up a tool.
FAQs

Properly installed Unilock pavers and walls last 30 to 50 years in Dallas, and the main lifespan limiter is the base material underneath rather than the paver itself, since our clay soil expands and contracts enough to shift a poorly compacted base within the first eight to ten years.
In most cases yes, a failing Unilock installation can be repaired by resetting the base and re-laying the existing pavers, which costs a fraction of full replacement, and we’ll give you an honest assessment before recommending one path or the other.
The hardscape portion typically takes five to ten working days depending on the square footage, retaining wall height, and whether we need to match an existing pattern, and the full addition or ADU project runs several months from permit to final walkthrough.
We stock the most common Unilock EnduraColor pavers, Brussels Block, and edging systems in our Dallas yard, and we’ll order any specific color blend or product line you need through our vendor account, so you never have to coordinate a materials delivery yourself.
