Cambridge Pavers Fence Installation: The Dallas Owner’s Guide

If your Cambridge Pavers fence is leaning, pulling away from its post line, or dropping blocks after a storm, you need a contractor who actually understands how these systems fail in North Texas soil. A full Cambridge Pavers fence installation in Dallas typically runs $3,500 – $9,000 depending on linear footage, soil conditions at the post line, and whether the base course and drainage need rebuilding. Most Dallas homeowners discover the problem the hard way: a spring storm pushes through, the clay soil swells and shifts, and one morning a section of fence is no longer sitting true. We stock Cambridge Pavers-compatible installation hardware on our trucks and can usually schedule the work within a week, not a month.

Let’s be clear about who you’re dealing with, because this matters when someone’s working at your property line. Mason Remodeling Co Dallas is an independent service provider. We are not affiliated with Cambridge Pavers, we do not represent them, and we don’t pretend to. What we do is install and repair their paver systems correctly, using the right base prep, the right drainage, and the right jointing materials for Dallas’s shrink-swell clay.

Before any crew member steps onto your property, you’ll have their name and photo. That’s the Threshold Standard, and it’s how we’ve operated in Dallas since 2004. Isaac Pruett still walks every fence job himself before the first block gets pulled, because a diagram of your fence line and the actual fence line are rarely the same thing after a few years of Texas weather.

Which Cambridge Pavers Models This Applies To

A dining nook with a built-in banquette

Cambridge Pavers manufactures a range of wall and fence block systems, and compatibility is not universal. The most common lines we see in Dallas are the Maytrx Wall, Ledgestone, and Sherwood series, each of which uses a different anchoring lug pattern and pinning system. If your fence is a freestanding paver wall with a cap course, the cap blocks on a Maytrx system will not seat properly on a Ledgestone course. That’s not a maybe. The lug geometry is different.

Here’s how to identify what you have without pulling the fence apart. Flip a cap block over, or look at the inside face of an exposed block near the fence end. Cambridge stamps a four-digit lot code on the bottom or back of most wall units, and the series name or a model abbreviation is often within six inches of that stamp. If the stamp is weathered off, measure the block depth. Maytrx units are typically 8 inches deep at the face; Ledgestone units run 6 to 8 inches with a rougher texture. If you’re still not sure, send us a photo before we come out. We’ll match it from one of the block profiles we keep in the shop.

On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: for the structural course and cap, use Cambridge OEM blocks. Aftermarket “compatible” blocks from other manufacturers will fight you on course height and color, and in Dallas UV exposure, a mismatched cap fades differently within two seasons. For pins, geogrid, and base aggregate, we use spec-grade aftermarket equivalents that meet or exceed Cambridge’s installation manual requirements. There is no reason to pay a markup for a bag with a logo on it when the aggregate beneath it is doing the actual work.

Signs Your Cambridge Pavers Fence Installation Is Failing

Most fence failures in Dallas don’t happen suddenly. They telegraph themselves, and if you catch them early, the repair is often a fraction of a full replacement. Here’s what we see most often in Oak Cliff, Lake Highlands, and the neighborhoods around White Rock Lake:

  • Blocks separating at the vertical joint line. This is almost always a base course issue. The block itself rarely fails; the aggregate beneath the first course has settled, or water has washed fines out of the joint sand. You’ll see the seam open up wider at the bottom than the top.
  • Cap blocks sliding out of position. Cambridge cap units rely on an adhesive bond, and the adhesives commonly used by other installers break down under Dallas heat cycling. When the cap adhesive fails, you’ll see caps shifted a quarter inch or more. It’s ugly, and more importantly, it lets water into the core, which accelerates everything else.
  • Fence leaning 5 degrees or more from vertical. In Dallas clay, this is rarely a block problem. It’s a soil movement problem. The post base or geogrid reinforcement was undersized for the soil conditions, and the whole assembly is rotating. You cannot fix this by pushing it back; the base has to be re-excavated and rebuilt.
  • Efflorescence (white powdery residue) that won’t scrub off. Some efflorescence is normal, but persistent, heavy efflorescence means water is wicking through the wall continuously. That’s a drainage failure behind or below the fence. We correct it with a properly graded base and clean aggregate behind the wall, then re-point the joints.
  • Ant mounds or voids at the base of the fence. Fire ants love the compacted aggregate behind paver walls. If you’ve got active colonies at the base, they’ve been excavating fines and creating voids. It’s not just a pest issue at that point; it’s a structural one.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A home office with a built-in desk and shelves

For a Cambridge Pavers fence installation in Dallas, the honest range is $3,500 – $9,000. A short decorative fence at the front property line might land at the low end. A 60-foot privacy fence with a rebuilt base course, new geogrid, and cap replacement will run toward the top. Here’s the line-item breakdown we give every homeowner before any work starts:

  • Base course demolition and excavation: $800 – $2,200, depending on linear feet and how much of the old base has to be hauled out.
  • Aggregate base and drainage preparation: $900 – $2,800. This is the part builders in Dallas get wrong most often, and it’s the part you cannot see after the job is done. Cheap base prep is invisible for two years and then it’s a leaning fence.
  • Block, cap, pin, and adhesive materials (OEM Cambridge): $1,200 – $2,800, depending on the series and whether caps are being replaced or salvaged.
  • Labor and finish work: $600 – $1,400. This includes cleaning, joint re-pointing, and site cleanup.

Before we touch the fence, you get a written price. Not a verbal estimate, not a range on a business card, not a number that changes when we pull the first course up. A written price, with the work scoped, delivered before any tool is unpacked. That’s how Mason Remodeling Co Dallas has operated since 2004, and it’s not a promotion. It’s the rule.

Our workmanship warranty on Cambridge Pavers fence installation runs 365 days from the completion date. If the work is not right within that year, we come back and make it right at no cost to you. No dispute process, no conditions, no charge for the return visit.

DIY or Call Us?

There are some things an owner can check safely. You can look at the cap blocks and see if they’ve shifted. You can mark the current lean angle with a level and check it again after the next heavy rain. You can note where water pools near the fence line after a storm. Those observations are useful, and they help us diagnose faster.

What we do not recommend is pulling apart a Cambridge Paver fence yourself. The blocks are heavy, the base course is load-bearing, and if the geogrid is still tensioned when you remove the wrong block, the wall can shrug. We’ve seen enough partially-disassembled paver fences in Dallas to know that a homeowner with good intentions and a pry bar usually ends up with a bigger repair bill than they started with. If you want an honest read on whether your fence needs a repair or a rebuild, call us at (432) 302-8761. Isaac Pruett will walk the fence line with you and tell you what’s actually going on. The estimate is free.
