Quikrete Driveway & Pavers: The Dallas Owner’s Guide

Quikrete driveway and paver surfaces in Dallas typically run $4,500 to $18,000 installed, depending on square footage, base prep, and whether you’re pouring new concrete or laying interlocking pavers. We stock Quikrete-compatible materials on our trucks and can usually match your existing product line the same day you call. The most common failure we see isn’t the Quikrete itself, it’s what’s underneath it: Dallas clay soil expands and contracts through our wet-dry cycles, and a driveway that looked perfect two years ago starts showing cracks, sinking edges, or pavers that have shifted out of level.

Here’s the thing about Quikrete products in North Texas: they’re engineered for specific applications, and using the wrong mix for your soil conditions is where most driveways go wrong. We’ll walk you through what you have, what’s failing, and what it actually costs to fix, without making you guess.

Which Quikrete Models This Applies To

Quikrete makes several product lines that end up in Dallas driveways and paver installations, and each one has different compatibility requirements. The main ones we work with are:

  • Quikrete Concrete Mix (1101): the standard bagged concrete for driveway slabs, walkways, and small pours. 4,000 PSI rating, which handles passenger vehicle traffic but not heavy trucks or RVs parked long-term.
  • Quikrete Crack-Resistant Concrete Mix (1006): has polymer fibers mixed in, better for Dallas’ freeze-thaw cycles and soil movement. Slightly more expensive per bag, but fewer callbacks.
  • Quikrete Sand Mix (1103): for paver bedding and joint sand. This is what locks interlocking pavers in place, and it’s the product most homeowners get wrong.
  • Quikrete Paver Base (1151) or All-Purpose Gravel (1152): the structural layer under pavers. Skip this step or use too thin a layer, and your pavers will look like a washboard within two years.

The compatibility gotcha we see constantly: homeowners buy the cheapest Quikrete bag at the big-box store without checking the PSI rating. A 3,500 PSI standard mix under a Dallas summer with clay soil movement will crack far sooner than the 4,000 PSI or crack-resistant versions. If you’re matching an existing pour, check the bag label or your original receipt for the product number. If you can’t find it, measure the slab thickness and we can usually identify what was used. As an independent contractor, we’re not affiliated with Quikrete, but we work with their products every week and know the lineup well enough to match what you have. We also stock materials from KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone for interior work, so matching products across a whole project is something we handle regularly.

Signs Your Quikrete Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • Hairline cracks that widen each season. In Dallas, this is almost always soil movement under the slab. The clay expands when wet and shrinks when dry, and the slab flexes with it until it cracks. A crack under 1/8 inch is cosmetic; beyond that, water gets in and accelerates the damage.
  • Pavers that rock or shift when you step on them. Loose pavers mean the joint sand has washed out or the base layer has eroded. Left alone, the pavers migrate and the edges of your driveway start spreading apart.
  • Low spots that hold water after rain. Pooling water softens the base under both concrete and pavers, which creates deeper low spots. It’s a cycle that gets worse after every Dallas thunderstorm season.
  • Crumbling or flaking surface (spalling). This usually means the mix was poured too wet or finished while water was sitting on top. Common on DIY pours, and it only gets worse with sun exposure and freeze-thaw cycles.
  • Weeds or grass pushing up between pavers. Organic material growing through the joints means the sand layer is gone and soil is working its way up. The weeds themselves don’t cause the failure, but they’re a symptom of missing joint material.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled family room with new windows and a window seat

For a Dallas driveway, here’s what you’re looking at in real numbers:

Project Type Installed Price Range
Concrete driveway installation (Quikrete 4000 PSI) $4,500 – $12,000
Paver driveway installation (Quikrete base and sand system) $7,000 – $18,000
Full driveway replacement (demo, haul, repour) $5,000 – $14,000
Driveway sealing (Quikrete sealer) $250 – $700

What drives the range: square footage, whether the old slab has to be broken out and hauled, how much base prep the soil needs, and access for equipment. We give you a written price before any work starts, and that price is the price. No change orders, no surprise line items, no verbal estimate that grows on the final bill. Every driveway job includes the materials, labor, base prep, and a written guarantee that states exactly what’s covered and for how long.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself: look for pooling water after rain, note where cracks are starting, and check if pavers have shifted. That helps us give you a more accurate phone estimate. What you shouldn’t do is pull up a section of driveway to “see what’s underneath.” Once you disturb the base layer or break the bond between pavers and sand, the repair gets more expensive, not less. Concrete pours are also time-sensitive; if you mix a batch and can’t place and finish it fast enough in Dallas heat, you’ve wasted the material and have a half-finished slab. We’ve fixed enough DIY driveway attempts to know it’s cheaper to call before the pour than after. Call (432) 302-8761 and we’ll give you straight numbers.
