Atlas Fence Installation: The Dallas Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Atlas-compatible fence components across Dallas, with full replacement installations typically running $3,500 to $9,000 depending on linear footage, post condition, and whether we’re pulling new lines or working inside an existing footprint. Most Dallas homeowners discover a problem the same way: a gate that drags, a post leaning after a spring storm, or a section that shifts in the clay soil after a hard freeze-thaw cycle. If you’re looking at a failed Atlas fence installation and wondering whether to patch or replace, here’s what actually holds up in DFW weather and what it costs to fix it right.
We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Atlas. That means we’ll tell you straight when an OEM Atlas part is worth paying for, and when a quality aftermarket equivalent does the same job for less money.
Which Atlas Models This Applies To

Over the years, Atlas has produced several residential and light-commercial fence lines, and the compatibility questions we get most often in Dallas involve the Atlas residential aluminum series and their ornamental steel options. The gotcha: Atlas doesn’t use one universal post size. Depending on the line, you’ll see 2-inch, 2.5-inch, and occasional 3-inch square posts, and the gate hinges are matched to the post profile, not just the gate weight. If you swap a post and keep the old hinges, the gate will bind. We’ve seen it in Preston Hollow and Lake Highlands, and it’s always the same fix: match the post profile first, then shim the hinge to the new post face.
How to identify what you have before you call: look for a stamped label on the inside of the gate frame or on the bottom rail of a panel. If the label is gone, measure the post width and the picket spacing. Atlas aluminum pickets are typically 5/8-inch or 3/4-inch square, and the spacing between pickets tells us which series you’re working with. Bring us a photo of the post cap and a measurement of the post width, and we can usually identify the line before we even drive out.

Signs Your Atlas Fence Installation Is Failing
- Gate drags at the latch side – This is almost always a hinge-to-post issue, not a gate weight issue. The post has shifted slightly out of plumb in Dallas clay, and the gate now hangs heavy on one hinge. Tightening the hinge screws without addressing the post lean gets you maybe three months.
- Post lean after rain – North Texas soil expands when wet and contracts when dry. A post set in concrete that wasn’t deep enough will start to lean after the first serious rain. In Dallas you want posts below the frost line plus a few inches more for our clay movement, which is why we set every Atlas-compatible post at 24 to 30 inches depending on fence height.
- Panel rattles in wind but posts look straight – The bracket or clip that holds the panel to the post has failed. This is common on older Atlas installations where galvanized clips were used. The fix is straightforward, and we carry replacement brackets that match the original hole spacing.
- Rust streaks below gate welds on ornamental steel – Atlas ornamental steel is powder-coated, but the coating fails at weld points first. Once moisture gets under the coating at a weld, rust spreads along the seam. Touch-up paint slows it down; sanding and re-coating the weld zone actually stops it.
- Gate won’t stay latched after a temperature swing – The latch receiver and the latch are no longer aligned because the gate frame has expanded or contracted. In a Dallas August afternoon, metal gates can expand enough to throw the latching off by a quarter inch. Adjustable latch receivers fix this without replacing the gate.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a full Atlas-style fence replacement in Dallas, the installed range is $3,500 to $9,000. Most standard residential lots with 150 to 250 linear feet of fencing land between $5,000 and $7,500. The big drivers are linear footage, post depth requirements, whether we’re removing an old concrete footer line (which adds labor and haul-off), and whether the existing gate is salvageable or needs a full frame replacement.
Every quote we give is written, line-itemed, and fixed before we start. No change orders because we didn’t mention haul-off. The number you sign is the number you pay. We also cover our fence work under our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something fails within a year of completion, we come back and make it right at no cost.
DIY or Call Us?
What you can safely check: gate alignment at the latch, loose hinge screws, and whether a panel bracket has simply popped out of its receiver. Those are visual checks and easy fixes. Where DIY goes wrong with Atlas fence work is post replacement and gate re-hanging. You’re dealing with a post that weighs more than you think, concrete that has to cure correctly in Dallas heat, and a gate that will pull on its hinges if the post is even slightly out of plumb. A gate that drops two inches six months later is a direct result of a post set a few degrees off.

FAQs

Atlas aluminum fencing typically lasts 20 to 30 years in Dallas, with posts being the first component to fail due to soil movement and moisture. Ornamental steel gates tend to need attention at the welds within 10 to 15 years. Call (432) 302-8761 if you’re seeing early failure; we’ll tell you whether it’s a post issue or a gate issue before you spend anything.
Yes, in most cases a leaning post, failed bracket, or gate alignment problem can be repaired without replacing the whole fence. Full replacement only makes sense when multiple posts are compromised or the panels themselves are structurally done. We’ll inspect and give you the honest split before any work is quoted.
A standard Atlas-style fence replacement on a typical Dallas lot takes 2 to 4 days, including old fence removal, post setting with proper cure time, and panel and gate installation. Post replacement alone is often a single day. We’ll give you a timeframe in writing with your quote.
We stock the most common Atlas-compatible brackets, hinges, post caps, and gate hardware on our trucks, and we can source OEM Atlas panels and posts through our supplier network within a few business days for Dallas jobs. Aftermarket equivalents for brackets and clips are available same-day in most cases.
