PGT Roofing: The Dallas Owner’s Guide
If you have a PGT roof component that has failed, we stock and install PGT-compatible roofing parts across Dallas, with most repairs running $400 – $1,800 installed depending on what gave out. The short version: if water is getting in, or a section of your roof is lifting, buckling, or missing, we can usually match the PGT profile and have it sealed the same visit. Most Dallas homeowners find the problem after a storm, when they spot a water stain on the ceiling or notice a shingle in the yard.
PGT is better known for impact windows and doors, but their roofing line shares the same Florida-grade engineering: reinforced profiles, heavier gauge flashing, and fastener patterns built for wind uplift. When a PGT roof part fails in North Texas, it is rarely the material itself. It is almost always installation detail from the original build, hail, or age at the flashing points. We will explain what that means for your repair below.
Which PGT Models This Applies To

PGT’s roofing line covers three main profiles: the PGT Aluminum Shingle, the PGT Standing Seam Panel, and the PGT Tile-Profile Metal Roof. Each uses a different clip and fastener system, so the part has to match the series, not just look similar. The easiest way to identify what you have is to check the manufacturer label inside the ridge cap or on the underside of a panel you can safely access from a ladder. If the label is gone, measure the panel width and the rib spacing with a tape measure. The PGT shingle profile is 12 inches wide with a 3/4-inch rib. The standing seam runs 16 inches on center. The tile profile mimics clay tile at 14 inches per module.
One compatibility gotcha we see often in Dallas: the PGT tile-profile roof uses a proprietary clip that locks into a channel on the underside of the panel. Some aftermarket clips look close but do not seat fully, and the first hard wind lifts the panel. You are better off with the OEM clip, even at a few dollars more per piece, because the failure is not worth the savings. For the shingle and standing seam lines, quality aftermarket panels from the major metal roof suppliers hold up fine, but we always match the gauge and the rib profile exactly. PGT uses 26-gauge steel on the standing seam and 24-gauge aluminum on the shingle. If you install a thinner 29-gauge panel from a big-box store, it will dent under the first Texas hail season and look like a golf ball. We are an independent Dallas service provider, not affiliated with PGT, but we work with PGT components every season and know which substitutes are safe and which are not.

Signs Your PGT Roofing Is Failing
- A water stain on the ceiling after a rain, but not every rain. This usually points to a failing seam or flashing at a transition point, like where the roof meets a wall or a pipe boot. Water only gets in when wind drives rain at the right angle, which is why the stain comes and goes.
- Peeling paint or rust streaks at the ridge cap or hips. The ridge cap fasteners on PGT roofs have rubber washers that dry out in the Dallas sun. Over time the rubber cracks, water gets under the fastener head, and the rust trail follows the panel. This is the most common PGT-specific failure we see here.
- A visible dent with a cracked or missing stone coating. If you have a PGT tile-profile metal roof, hail can crack the stone coating without punching through the steel. If water sits in the dent, it will eventually corrode the galvanizing underneath and open a pinhole. A small dent now is a leak in eighteen months.
- Flapping or ticking noise during wind. A panel that ticks or lifts in the wind has lost fastener tension, usually because the original install drove a screw too tight or into a missed rafter. The steel expands and contracts with Dallas temperature swings, and the screw backs out over the years. If you can hear it, it is time to fix it.
- Granules from shingles or stone chips in the gutter. Any roof sheds a little over time, but a sudden jump in granules after a storm means the surface was hit hard by hail. The PGT shingle profile’s stone coating protects the substrate, and once it is gone the underlying metal is exposed to ultraviolet and rain. The fix is usually a panel replacement, not a patch.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For most PGT roof part failures in Dallas, you are looking at $400 – $1,800 installed, depending on what failed. A simple ridge cap fastener replacement or a small flashing repair sits at the bottom of that range. Replacing a single PGT shingle-profile panel runs $400 – $800. A tile-profile panel with the OEM clip is $600 – $1,200. If you need a larger standing seam section rebuilt after a storm, you are moving toward $1,500 – $1,800 or, in a hail event, a full roof replacement at $8,000 – $20,000.
Every quote we give is a written price before work starts. You will see the part cost and the labor separated, because you deserve to know what the material is and what the hands cost. We install the replacement, replace bad fasteners and flashing in the work area, and haul the old material off. You get a written guarantee for 365 days from the completion date. If the repair fails within that year, we come back and make it right at no charge. That is not a favor. That is the rule.
| Repair Type | Typical Installed Price in Dallas |
|---|---|
| Ridge cap fastener & washer replacement | $400 – $700 |
| Pipe boot / flashing replacement | $400 – $900 |
| Single PGT shingle-profile panel replacement | $400 – $800 |
| PGT tile-profile panel with OEM clip | $600 – $1,200 |
| Standing seam section rebuild (small) | $1,200 – $1,800 |

DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check your roof from a ladder at the eave line, or from the ground with a good pair of binoculars. Look for rust streaks, missing stone coating, lifted ridge caps, and dented panels. Take a picture with your phone and text it to us at the number below. What you should not do is walk a PGT metal roof. It is steeper than it looks, the metal is slick, and Dallas roofers lose more people to ladder and roof falls than to all other job-site injuries combined. We carry harnesses, roof anchors, and the right ladder for the pitch, and that gear stays on the truck until we start. If you are on a flat section and confident, you can replace a screw with a matching storm washer, but the moment you touch a panel clip or a flashing seam, you are into work that can void the manufacturer warranty and open a leak. Call us at (432) 302-8761 and we will quote it from your photos before we ever put a foot on the roof.
FAQs

A properly installed PGT metal roof should give you 30 to 50 years in North Texas, depending on the profile and how many hail seasons it takes. The panels themselves will outlast the fasteners and the flashing, which typically need attention every 15 to 20 years in Dallas. If your roof is under 15 years old and failing, it is almost certainly an installation issue at a transition point, not a defective panel. Call (432) 302-8761 and we will tell you what we are looking at after a quick inspection.
A small dent can often be repaired with a paint-matched seam seal and a fastener replacement. A cracked or corroded panel cannot be patched reliably, because the patch will delaminate from the metal under Texas heat and leak again within a season or two. If the damage is in a visible field of the roof, a full panel replacement usually costs less than the callbacks a patch will create. Call (432) 302-8761 for a straight answer on yours, with a written price before any work begins.
Most single-panel PGT replacements in Dallas take two to four hours on the roof, with the full visit including setup, tear-off, and cleanup running under a day. If you need a larger section rebuilt or new underlayment, plan for a day. We will tell you the schedule before we start, and the written quote includes the labor for the entire job, not just the panel.
We stock the common PGT fasteners, storm washers, clips, flashing profiles, and sealants on the truck, along with matching panels in the standard PGT shingle, standing seam, and tile-profile gauges. If you have a custom color or a discontinued profile, we will track it through our distributor and schedule the install when the part arrives. We also keep parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone, because our work crosses from roofing into the rest of the house. You will know what is on our truck and what is on order before we open a single panel.
