Schluter Kitchen Remodeling: The Dallas Owner’s Guide
If you have a Schluter product in your Dallas kitchen and something has failed, we stock Schluter-compatible trim, membranes, and drainage components, and we install them for $250 to $900 per part depending on scope, with most repairs finished the same day. A full Schluter-system kitchen remodel in Dallas runs $14,000 to $45,000 when it involves new cabinetry, counters, and waterproofed surfaces. Most homeowners discover a Schluter failure the same way: a cracked edge on a Schluter strip, water staining where tile meets the counter, or a drain on a Schluter-KERDI shower base that has stopped seating properly. You notice it when you wipe down the counters or step on a tile edge and it moves.
We’re not affiliated with Schluter. We’re a Dallas remodeling company that works with their products because they hold up in Texas heat and humidity when installed correctly. Written by Isaac Pruett, who has been running jobs in Dallas since bringing his Southern California trade training to Texas, this guide tells you what fails, what it costs, and who should touch it.
Which Schluter Models This Applies To

The parts we replace most often come from three Schluter lines: Schluter-DITRA uncoupling membranes under tile floors, Schluter-KERDI waterproofing membranes behind kitchen counters and sink areas, and Schluter-RONDEC, SCHIENE, and QUADEC edge profiles that terminate tile at countertops and backsplashes. If you’re looking at a metal or PVC strip with “Schluter” stamped on the flange, you’re holding a profile. The compatibility gotcha most Dallas homeowners run into is height: SCHIENE is built for floor-to-wall transitions, RONDEC for outside corners, QUADEC for square-edge counter aprons. A RONDEC will not seat properly where a SCHIENE belongs, and forcing it leaves a lip that catches water and grime (more on that below).
To identify what you need, pull the tile at the failed edge and measure the profile flange height in millimeters, or look for the three-letter code stamped on the underside. OEM Schluter profiles are aluminum, stainless steel, or PVC; we also carry the Schluter-compatible products from KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone for surrounding work, so a counter or cabinet replacement can be quoted at the same visit. For membranes, check whether the orange fleece is intact on the back of the DITRA or KERDI; if it’s peeling, the membrane is done.

Signs Your Schluter Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Dark staining along the edge profile flange. Water has wicked behind the strip and is sitting against the tile adhesive. In Dallas summers, that moisture expands and contracts daily, and the profile starts pulling away from the mortar bed.
- A tile edge that clicks or moves when you press it. The mortar bond under the Schluter profile has sheared, usually because the strip was installed tight against the tile with no movement joint, and the slab shifted.
- Grout cracking in a straight line parallel to a counter seam. This is your uncoupling membrane telling you the subfloor moved and the DITRA couldn’t flex enough because it was bridged or installed over an uneven surface.
- Water beading on cabinet kick plates below the sink. A KERDI seam at the counter-to-backsplash transition has separated. In granite and quartz counters, this is the number one hidden leak we find on Dallas remodels.
- Corrosion or pitting on aluminum Schluter profiles. This happens when acidic cleaners or hard Dallas water are left to dry on the metal. Aluminum profiles in particular will oxidize, and once the anodized layer goes, the pitting starts.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a single Schluter profile replacement in Dallas, you’re looking at $250 to $500 installed, which includes removing the failed strip, cleaning the tile edge, setting the new profile in fresh mortar, and re-grouting the joint. Replacing a section of KERDI membrane behind a sink runs $400 to $900, and a full DITRA membrane replacement under a kitchen floor starts at $1,500 and goes up with square footage. You should know who is coming, what it costs, and what happens if something goes wrong, before we ever pick up a tool.
A full Schluter-system kitchen remodel in Dallas ranges from $14,000 on the compact end to $45,000 for a larger space with custom cabinetry and stone surfaces. We provide a written price before any work starts, and that price is the price. Every Schluter replacement we do carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the fix fails within a year of completion, we return and make it right at no cost to you.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely pull a loose Schluter profile out of the gap with a flat pry bar if it’s already separating from the tile, and you can inspect the KERDI behind a sink to see if water has reached the drywall. What you should not do is cut into a DITRA membrane or pull tile to re-seat a profile without knowing what’s under it. Schluter membranes sit over subfloor that may be structurally related to your kitchen’s framing, and a wrong cut can compromise the waterproof assembly in ways you won’t see until staining appears below the floor line. None of this is high-voltage or high-tension work, but it is work where the failure is invisible for months.
If you want it matched, priced, and done before the next Dallas rain season pushes moisture through the gap, call (432) 302-8761. We’ll send crew who arrive in marked uniforms with photo ID badges, and you’ll get their names and photos before they arrive. That’s the Threshold Standard, and it applies to every visit.
FAQs

A Schluter membrane installed correctly over a stable subfloor should last 20 to 30 years; Schluter profiles typically last 15 to 20 years before the metal or PVC shows wear, though Dallas water and heat can shorten aluminum profiles if acidic cleaners are used regularly. Call (432) 302-8761 and we’ll inspect the failure and tell you whether it’s age or an installation problem.
In most cases no, because the failure is in the fleece backing or the mortar bond, not in the visible surface, and once that bond is compromised the part no longer seals. The one exception is a scratched or lightly pitted aluminum profile, which can sometimes be refinished. Call (432) 302-8761 for an exact diagnosis, free.
A single profile replacement takes two to three hours including mortar set time; a KERDI section replacement is a half-day job; a full DITRA membrane replacement under a kitchen floor is a two-day job because the mortar must cure before tile goes back down. We give you that time window in your written quote before work starts.
Our Dallas crews carry common Schluter SCHIENE, RONDEC, and QUADEC profiles in the most-used aluminum and stainless finishes, plus KERDI band and membrane patches, so most single-part failures can be fixed on the first visit. For non-stock profiles or full membrane replacements, we order and schedule within the week. Call (432) 302-8761 and tell us the code stamped on your part, and we’ll tell you before the visit if we have it on hand.
